christmas cookies

Instead of buying presents for many of my friends this year I made cookies. I didn't go very traditional because I personally don't love the flavor of a lot of the more traditional Christmas cookies and also didn't have time to test very many recipes before getting things mailed off. So, I generally went with things that I already knew worked: the sugar cookie recipe from The Garden of Vegan ("Mum's Sugar Cookies"--I've been making these every year for the last 4 years), the Maple Walnut and Chocolate Chip Cookies from Vegan With a Vengeance, and then a cookie that was inspired by Celine's Oreo Cookie-Cookies: I took the Chocolate -Chocolate Chip-Walnut cookie recipe from Veganomicon, substituted peppermint extract for the almond extract, left out the chocolate chips and walnuts, and instead gently mixed in about 9 Candy Cane Joe-Joe's that I'd broken into pieces. Maybe next year I'll go more traditional with my cookie choices, but I liked the way all of these worked out, so we'll see.

They look oh so good. I love your twist on the chocolate oreo cookie. I'll bet the mint flavor was yummy!! I'm sure all your friends will love their treats! :-)

These candy cane jo-jo things are stalking me! Why, oh why did they not have them back when I lived across the street from a TJs and before I knew I had a wheat allergy? But all those cookies look amazing! Our house looks like a cookie factory too but those look better!

Those sugar cookies are adorable, I love that shade of yellow, it's pretty. And the maple walnut cookies sound heavenly. Your friends are very lucky!

those look so much better than dry dainty christmas cookies of the traditional variety - the jojo cookie is especially inspired... droolworthy, really.

Your cookies rocked-we snarfed them all up in a couple of days. I was especially fond of your candy cane cookies- such an awesome idea! Please don't go traditional, if it means any of these gems will be left behind!

Mmm...those cookies look great! (I especially like the frosted/decorated ones at the top of your post.)

And I love giving vegan desserts as Christmas gifts, too - it's such a fun/easy way to spread the love :)
